The national broadcaster of FYR. Macedonia  MRT, made an open call for entries giving a deadline until February 8. This year the channel’s officials have decided to find the entry first and then through an internal selection determine the country’s next Eurovision 2018 representative.

The broadcaster’s open invitation calls for songwriters and music producers from the country or abroad to submit their entries in, completed or demo form. Whoever is interested must send his entry to the mail: eurosong.macedonia@gmail.com

Depending on the entry that will be chosen , the national broadcaster will approach an artist or group of artists to represent the country in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest next May in Lisbon. The decision will be taken by a professional jury on the  grounds who can bring the best result for the country.

Initially there were worries of FYR Macedonia wouldn’t be able to compete in Eurovision 2018 due to outstanding debts to the EBU, that led to the country’s absence from the provisional lists of participants in November. However, after talks with EBU and finding a compromising solution , its participation was confirmed officially and the country will be joining the other 42 countries in Lisbon.

THE STORY SO FAR

Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, officially debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998. However, the country had already made efforts to enter the contest two years before since the Eurovision Song Contest 1996’s pre-selection round where it submitted its first song entry, “Samo ti” (Само ти) sung by Kaliopi, which failed to qualify to the final thus eliminating the nation from competing for the first time. The country’s best result was in 2006, when Elena Risteska sang “Ninanajna” (Нинанајна) in Athens, Greece and came 12th.

Last year the country was represented by Jana Burčeska  and her song Dance Alone, which failed to reach the final, ending up in the semi final at the 15th place with 69 points.
