Anna Vissi sings “Mono i Agapi” in Nicosia
It was 1982 and the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Harrogate International Center in Harrogate, UK. It was Cyprus’ 2nd appearance in the contest and on stage appears Anna Vissi with her song Mono i Agapi (Only Love). Anna performed her song on the 8th spot of the show and managed to climb to the 5th place of the scoreboard with 85 points. The 5th place is the best result of the Island of Aphrodite in the contest until today. Cyprus has reached the 5th place 3 times, in 1982, 1997 and 2004.
On the 12th of September Anna visited her home country Cyprus and held a concert in Nicosia at “Sholi Tiflon Theatre”. The name of the concert was “Moni i Agapi” (Only Love), like her Eurovision entry in 1982. In her opening speech Anna stated:
Thank you all for being here tonight, in this lovely theater. I remember being in this place for the first time since i was 16 years old. Don’t count now……. A lot of happy years and memories with Love, with Love, with LOVE. I have to remember from you only love. To give and receive love. With love we can overcome almost every obstacle. I am very happy today but on the same time I am sad because today is my grandchild’s birthday. I am a grandmother and this is a real love too….. I want to dedicate this concert to him, “from giagia to Nikos”.
