SBS, the Australian national broadcaster has confirmed that Australia will participate at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next year in Stockholm.
The news we all have been waiting for and it’s not surprising at all. The EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and the SBS have announced today that Australia will return to the contest next year. Australia will have to compete in one of the 2 semifinals of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. It is no longer autoqualified. It is still unknown if the Aussies will become permanent members of the Eurovision Song Contest. Jon Ola Sand has added: ‘ We strongly believe The Eurovision Song Contest has the potential to evolve organically into a truly global event.’ So those words make us wonder. Are they thinking of organising a WorldVision or a CosmoVision? No one knows what future holds.
Australia debuted at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with Guy Sebastian and placed 5th in the grand final. Guy Sebastian was selected via an internal selection and participated with his entry Tonight again.
