Australia: SBS will not participate in Junior Eurovision 2021

Australia’s national broadcaster, SBS, has ruled out their participation at Junior Eurovision 2021 in Paris.

SBS confirmed to Aussievision that they will take part in this year’s Junior Eurovision. Specifically the Australian broadcaster stated to Aussievision:

“Due to the current travel restrictions, Australia will not be competing in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021.”

SBS’s confirmation of non-participation comes after ABC’s, the other Australian broadcaster, that they do not intend to take part in the 19th edition of Junior Eurovision for the same reasons.

Notably, last year the country decided to withdraw from the contest as the covid-19 travel restrictions left no other option.

Australia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia, Bulgaria, back in the 2015 edition. In their last appearance in 2019 the country was represented by Jordan Antony with his entry ‘We will rise” that finished in 8th place receiving a total of 121 points.
