Australia: SBS will take part in Eurovision 2022

The Australian national broadcaster, SBS, has confirmed that it will be participating at Eurovision 2022 next year in Italy.
SBS has officially confirmed to ESCToday that the country will be present at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Italy next year.
In 2019 SBS in collaboration with Blink TV secured Australia a place in the Eurovision Song Contest for the next 5 years. Up to that point the country had participated in the tender at the invitation of the EBU since 2015.
Following the cancellation of ESC 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Blink TV, the partner of SBS and the co-production company for Eurovision, had revealed that the national selection selection of Australia “Eurovision: Australia Decides” will return in 2022.
This year the Australian representative, Montaigne, was not able to travel to Rotterdam due to the ongoing travel restrictions imposed in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic

Australia has been taking part in the Eurovision Song contest since 2015, and has not yet managed to win.
The country’s best result in the contest is Dami Im’s 2nd place in 2016.
Australia is in the top ten in three of its other appearances in the competition, with Guy Sebastian finishing fifth in 2015 and Isaiah Firebrace finishing 2017 ninth and Kate Miller Heidke finishing 2019 also ninth.
This year Montainge competed in the 1st semi final but didn’t make it to the final show marking Australia first time not to qualify to the Grand final show since their debut in 2015.
