Austria: DJ LUM!X and Pia Maria will represent the country at Eurovision 2022

Austria has internally selected DJ LUM!X and Pia Maria to represent the country at Eurovision 2022 in Italy.

Austrian Broadcaster ORF has announced DJ LUM!X and Pia Maria as the country’s next representative at Eurovision 2022. DJ LUM!X and Pia Maria were unveiled this morning during Ö3-Wecker at Hitradio Ö3.

A few words for DJ LUM!X

LUM! X Born in 2002 in Rohrbach, real name Luca Michlmayr is an Austrian DJ and music producer.

Michlmayr started playing music at the age of 11. Uploading original songs to SoundCloud and YouTube, the Swedish independent record label and the Bounce United network found him and signed a contract.

In May 2018, Michlmayr released his debut single Underground in collaboration with Spanish musician Moha. Then the song Bounce United (700K) after it managed to reach 700 thousand subscribers on the official Bounce United YouTube channel. A few months later the song Bounce United (1 million) was released.

In early 2019, the singles Jägermeister and Waiting for Me were released. His song titled Monster by Meg & Dia went viral on YouTube, he remixed it with Italian musician Gabry Ponte and achieved his international success and then was able to enter many European singles charts.

In January 2020, the single The Passenger (LaLaLa) was released, an adaptation of the Iggy Pop song, and a few months later a third collaboration with Ponte, entitled Scare Me.

In early 2021 a cover of the English version of the 1983 song Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling was released, as well as the single Annie Are You Ok. This was followed in April 2021 by the song Secrets co-produced with Sølo. In August 2021 the single Champion was released, which served as the official anthem of the playoffs LEC of summer 2021. In October 2021 followed the song Trick or Treat, co-produced with the Swiss DJ and Molow.

A few words for Pia Maria

Pia Maria, born on May 21, 2003, is from the Austrian region of Tyrol. She has been writing her own songs since she was 16 and is a trained make-up artist and works at the Tyrolean State Theater in Innsbruck

Austria in Eurovision

Austria has been taking part in the Eurovision Song contest since 1957.

Austria has won the contest two times in 1966 with Udo Jürgens and the song ”Merci, Chérie”, and in 2014 with Conchita Wurst and the song ”Rise Like a Phoenix”. 

In 2021 Austria represented by Vincent Bueno who sang ”Amen” but failed to qualify for the final, finishing 12th in the second semi-final with 66 points.
