Austria : Get to know Cesár Sampson

Austrian public televesion, ORF selected this year’s entry in the 63rd Eurovision via internal selection. The artist chosen to represent Austria is Cesár Sampson with the song “Nobody but you” and the composers who are also the producers of the song are: Boris Milanov, Sebastian Arman, Joacim Persson, and Johan Alkenäs.

About Cesár Sampson and Nobody but you“.

Cesár Sampson is 34 years old, born in Linz, Austria. He started singing at the age of 17 as he sang alongside several Austrian artists of the alternative scene such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, Sofa Surfers and Louie Austen and he also participated in concerts with them in several places in the world. Cesár was then involved with the composition and production of songs, while he was a member of the music projects, Symphonix International and Electric Church. As a member of Symphonix International, Cesár Sampson participated in Eurovision twice as backing vocalist on behalf of Bulgaria, in 2016 with Poli Genova with the song “If Love Was a Crime“, and in 2017 with Kristian Kostov with the song “Beautiful Mess“, gaining respectively  the 4th and the 2nd place.

The song “Nobody but you” is written entirely in English, while moving in gospel and soul rhythms. Three of the four composers of this year’s Austrian participation, Boris Milanov, Sebastian Arman, Joacim Persson, participated in the composition of Bulgaria’s participation in 2016 and 2017, while Milanov and Persson participate in the composition of this year’s Bulgarian entry.

Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Austria is one of the oldest countries in the Eurovision Song Contest as the country participates from 1957 and has a total of 50 entries so far. Austria won the contest twice, in 1966 with Udo Jürgens and the song “Merci, Chérie” and in 2014 with Conchita Wurst with the song “Rise Like a Phoenix” and with its second victory became the country with the longest time distance between two successive victories. Austria, however, has been in the last placement on the scoreboard 8 times in the final of Eurovision (1957, 1961, 1962, 1979, 1984, 1988, 1991,2015) and one in semifinals (2012) and scored 0 points 4 times (1962, 1988, 1991, 2015) ). Last year, Austria was represented in 2017 by Nathan Trent and “Running on Air”, who took the 16th place in the final scoreboard. Austria will be in the second half of the first semifinals, which will be held on 8 May in Lisbon. Below you can see the official Austrian video:
