Azerbaijan: Fidan Huseynova will represent Azerbaijan at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018
In a special press conference on Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 that was held today at the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (ITV), Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster, Fidan Huseynova , was announced as the next Junior Eurovision 2018 representative in Minsk, Belarus.
Head of the Central Office of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Faig Gurbatov, Head of the ITV Department of Music, Art and Special Projects Leyla Guliyeva attended the event. Leyla Guliyeva said:
Fidan Huseynova was known for her performance at the concert of French singer Lara Fabian. She also has a duet with Elnur Huseynov. The song for the contest is not known yet. According to the regulations of the contest, the song will be composed with the singer’s participation. Azerbaijan is a country of talents. Why not to popularize our children around the world? If we have such a possibility, why not benefit from it. It’s a great stimulus for our talented children.”

Fidan Huseynova was born in 2005. She had taken part in the international art festival “Testene Art Baku” in 2017 and won first place in vocal performances among children aged 9-12. She also won the third place at the San Remo Junior Festival. In 2016, by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, Fidan Huseynova’s name was put into the “Red Book” of Azerbaijan’s young talents and was awarded the Presidential scholarship.
Azerbaijan in Junior Eurovision
Azerbaijan debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. Back in 2008, İTV announced that Azerbaijan would take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Limassol, but then withdrew before the contest, because there were too few candidates for the national selection and consequently canceled its debut.
After taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013, Azerbaijan withdrew from the contest because of unspecified reasons and on 25 July 2018, it was announced that Azerbaijan will return to the contest this year. Its best result was in 2013 Rustam Karimov and his song Me and my Guitar which finished in the 7th place.
