Azerbaijan: Ictimai opens the submissions for Efendi’s Eurovision 2021 song

Ictimai TV , Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster, has opened the submissions in seek for the song that the nation’s ESC 2021 representative, Efendi, will perfrom on the stage of Rotterdam Ahoy.

The Land of fire is speeding up preparations for Eurovision 2021. iTV has opened the submission window for songs, calling for composers and songwriters to submit songs that believe that can be Efendi’s most appropriate Eurovision 2021 entry.

All interested creator have a deadline until January 19 to send in their song proposals, which can be submitted via e- mail at  song@eurovision.az .

Last year iTV went internal to select the country’s hopeful. The broadcaster selected Samira Efendi among five candidate acts. Namely,  Samira Efendi, Laman Dadasheva, Elvin Novruzov, Jabrail Rasulov and Riad Abdulov were last year’s candidates of iTV’s internal selection process.

Efendi was set to fly the flag in Rotterdam with her song “Cleopatra” but unfortunately as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 outbreak she never had the chance to compete her journey.

The Eurovision Story so Far

Azerbaijan participated for the first time  in the contest back in 2008 and since then haven’t missed out any year. In 2011 the duo Eldar & Nikki brought the Eurovision trophy on home soil with their song Running scared, and gave the chance to the Land of fire to host the competition next year in the capital city of Baku.

In 2018 Azerbaijan was represented by Aisel and her entry X my heart, despite a dynamic performance she failed to qualify to the Grand Final. In 2019 Azerbaijan selected internally Chingiz  to defend the Azeri colors  in Tel Aviv with his entry Truth and did really well as he finished 8th in the Grand final scoreboard.

Efendi’s ESC 2020 entry, Cleopatra, may have not reached the stage in Rottedam Ahoy as the contest was cancelled but will have a second chance this year to reach her Eurovision destination in Rotterdam.
