Cyprus: Demo of Eurovision 2019 entry “Replay” leaked; CyBC’s official reaction

In late December the Cypriot broadcaster officially confirmed that Tamta will be representing the country in the 64th Eurovision Song Contest.

Earlier the CyBC had already hinted and confirmed the song title of its Eurovision entry, through a new cover picture on Facebook. Thus, Replay was the first revealed song title of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 and some of its lyrics:

You need my love on replay

Replay, replay, replay, yeah…

THE SONG LEAKED AND THE CyBC’s REACTION

Today the initial demo of the song was leaked on the web giving us a little taste of how the song sounds like. The Cypriot broadcaster has confirmed the fact but however has stated tha it is only the initial demo of the song’s very first steps when the broadcaster was seeking for its next Eurovision representative. The CyBC’s announcement has as following:

THE CREATIVE TEAM BEHIND THE SONG

The Cypriot broadcaster has previously through teasers and quizzes revealed that the composer of the song will be once again the Greek Swedish songwriter and composer Alex Papaconstantinou. Alongside with Alex the CyBC revealed the whole creative team behind the Cypriot entry , which includes some of the most successful names of the music industry Teddy Sky, Viktor Svensson, Albin Nedler and Kristofer Fogelmark are on board and have tried alongside with Alex to contribute in making a winning entry for Cyprus. After the composer’s creative team the broadcaster went on with the  staging director of the song . The well known choreographer  Sacha Jean Baptise, will be responsible for the Cypriot entry’s staging for a 4th time.

THE EUROVISION STORY SO FAR

Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the group Island, achieving an honorable 6th placing in Dublin. Aphrodite’s island has been represented by some of the biggest names in the Greek and Cypriot music industry: Anna Vissi (1982), Michalis Hatzigiannis (1998), Evridiki (1992,1994,2007), Ivi Adamou (2012), Despina Olympiou (2013), etc.

The country achieved its best Eurovision result this year when it placed 2nd with Eleni Foureira’s Fuego. The Athens-based mega-star was selected internally to fly the Cypriot flag at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Eleni made Cyprus proud with her magnificent and dazzling performance at the Altice Arena.

The 64th Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place on 14, 16 and 18 May at the EXPO Convention Center in Tel Aviv, Israel. The event will be organized and presented by the Israeli national broadcaster KAN and the EBU.
