Cyprus: Eurovision 2019 entry entitled “Replay”
As the first rounds of revelations have been completed by unveiling the composing team and the staging director, the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC, went on with its teases this time referring to the title of its Eurovision 2019 entry
The Composing Team
The first two rounds of quizzes on CyBC’s Facebook, revealed that the composer of the next Cypriot Eurovision entry will be once again Alex Papaconstantinou. Their collaboration was confirmed with a posted photo of the general director of the national broadcaster CyBC Michalis Maratheftis, the Cypriot Head of Delegation Evi Papamichael and the Greek-Swedish musician. Additionally the broadcaster revealed all the creative team that will contribute to the composition and production of the song. However, the broadcaster quickly confirmed the names of the 5 composers that are behind the music and the song’s lyrics. Teddy Sky, Albin Nedler, Kristofer Fogelmark and Viktor Svensson will be on Alex’s side to produce the Cypriot entry for Tel Aviv.
The Staging Director
CyBC went on by giving more hints, by posting posted a new quiz this time referring to the staging director of its Eurovision 2019 entry. The next quiz askes about the relation between Swedish act Darin and the Cypriot Eurovision entry.
The Song Title…. Replay?
Next step …the song title! The broadcaster changed its cover picture on Facebook, featuring the word “RED”, but the letter “D” is featured by the Play button symbol, implying the word “Play”, a strong indication that the Cypriot Eurovision 2019 entry will be entitled Replay
Next stop before the final destination of revealing in details all the elements of the Cypriot Eurovision 2019 participation will be the name of the act that will represent Aphrodite’s island.
THE EUROVISION STORY SO FAR
Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the group Island, achieving an honorable 6th placing in Dublin. Aphrodite’s island has been represented by some of the biggest names in the Greek and Cypriot music industry: Anna Vissi (1982), Michalis Hatzigiannis (1998), Evridiki (1992,1994,2007), Ivi Adamou (2012), Despina Olympiou (2013), etc.
The country achieved its best Eurovision result this year when it placed 2nd with Eleni Foureira’s Fuego. The Athens-based mega-star was selected internally to fly the Cypriot flag at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Eleni made Cyprus proud with her magnificent and dazzling performance at the Altice Arena.
