It was September when the Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC had shared with the public the name of Alex Papaconstantinou as the composer of the next Eurovision 2018 entry. Born and raised up in Sweden, he counts many international hits alongside with three Eurovision entries ( Greece 2007, Azerbaijan 2009 and Cyprus 2012). According to the initial plan, the next representative would had been determined through a national selection held by the Cypriot broadcaster. For that purpose, live auditions were held in November in order to choose the finalists of the selection.
However with the national elections approaching at the end of the month (28/01) and after the composer’s desire for a more experienced and popular artist, the broadcaster opted to a change of plans.
The last days have arrived in Athens the general director of CyBC , the head of Cypriot delegations Evi Papamichail alongside with the director-producer Klitos Klitou , in order to complete with success negotiations with one of the most popular female Greek artists and announce her as the next Cypriot Eurovision 2018 representative. Of course Alex Papaconstantinou couldn’t miss the whole escalating effort of the Cypriot broadcaster, that has taken this year’s Eurovision Song Contest as a serious challenge.
Despite the media reports and rumors referring to one of the most popular Greek female singers, as INFE Greece reports, until this time the Greek artist hasn’t given THE final positive answer, but is surely very interested and exploring all the parameters in a very serious way.
INFE Greece’s information is talking about a very powerful song composed by Alex, giving to Cyprus the right to aim for the high places on the scoreboard. The Greek site of the local INFE club reports, that although it has in its knowledge all the background developments, in respect of the Cypriot delegation’s effort for the best result, it won’t publish any further details until the facts are officially determined.
