Czech Republic 2019: All you need to know about Lake Malawi and their entry “Friend of a Friend”
Czech Republic this year determined its Eurovision 2019 act through an online voting by fans and an international jury voting. Among a total of 8 candidates the group Lake Malawi and their entry Friend of a Friend.
A few words about Lake Malawi
Lake Malawi is an indie pop group from Třinec in Czech Republic and consists of Albert Černý (lead vocal, guitar), Jeroným Šubrt (bass and keys), Antonín Hrabal (drums) and Pavel Palát (drums).. The band was formed back in 2013 and their name was inspired by a song of Bon Iver. The group has take part in several concerts alongside well known groups such as The Kooks, Mika, and Thirty Seconds to Mars. Lake Malawi released their debut album in 2017. Their leading vocalist , Albert Černý, was born on February 17 ,1989 in the Třinec . Albert received lots of fame after winning 3 music awards by the Czech Music Academy Anděl,he Czech equivalent of the Grammies, with his former band called Charlie Straight. Additional he has won two Slavík awards and one MTV award for his overall work.
The entry “Friend of a Friend”
Behind the song Friend of a Friend are Jan Steinsdoerfer, Maciej Mikolaj Trybulec and Albert Černý. It is an electro-pop radio listening song. The group included in the official music video clip some of its own fans.
Lake Malawi will be perfroming Friend of Friend in the first half of the 1st semi final on May 14 in Tel Aviv.

The story so far in Eurovision
Czech Republic appeared for the first time in the Contest in 2007 with Kabat. A a row of disappointing results the country withdrew in 2010 and didn’t return until 2016. In 2016 its returned was followed by a gran final qualification for the first time . The best result came for the country in this year’s edition of the contest with Mikolas Josef who achieved a 6th placing in the Lisbon with his song και Lie to me.
