Czech Republic: 2020 national selection submission period prolonged by one month

The national broadcaster of Czech Republic, Ceska Televize (CT ) has announced that the period of submissions for the  2020 national selection is prolonged by one month

Artists who wish to take part in the country’s national selection for  Eurovision 2020, can submit their application up to July 31 after the one month extension to the submission deadline. All interested acts can send in their song to the broadcasters’s email address : escmusic@ceskatelevize.cz. This year’s national selection is held according to the same rules as last year, with one of the leading singers needed to be of Czech nationality. The national final is set to take place on January 28 at the Forum Karlín in Prague.

The country hasn’t seen televised national final shows since 200 and  2008. In 2018 it switched to a national selection format that included an online voting through a special app alongside with an international jury voting. The previous years since 2015, when the country made its return to the competition, the broadcaster had opted for an internal selection.

The Eurovision story so far

Czech Republic appeared for the first time in the Contest in 2007 with  Kabat. A a row of disappointing results the country withdrew in 2010 and didn’t return until 2016. In 2016 its returned was followed by a grand final qualification for the first time . The best result came for the country in 2018 with  Mikolas Josef who achieved a 6th placing in the Lisbon with his song και  Lie to me.

This year, Lake Malawi represented the country and finished 11th in the final . This was the country’s third qualification to the final . The outstanding element was the gap between the jury voting that placed the group 8th with 150 points while the public vote placed the Czech at the 24th place.
