Eurovision 2022: Opening Ceremony to take place at the Palace of Venaria
The opening ceremony and welcome party for Eurovision 2022 will take place at the Palace of Venaria.
The Italian organizers and the EBU are preparing for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in May in Turin, Italy.
Venaria Palace was chosen to host the event that officially opens during Eurovision week.
Venaria Palace is a former royal residence, near Turin in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It is one of the residences of the Royal House of Savoy, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. The palace complex is a masterpiece of baroque architecture and is full of decorations and works of art. It fell into disuse in the late 18th century. After the Napoleonic Wars, it was used for military purposes until 1978, when renovations began, leading to the largest restoration project in European history. It opened to the public on October 13, 2007 and has since become an important tourist attraction and exhibition space.
The opening ceremony and welcome party are scheduled for Sunday, May 8 and will be hosted by Carolina Domenico and Gabriele Corsi.
During the Opening Ceremony and the carpet event, the contestants will walk on the long carpet and greet the fans and the press. There will also be mini interviews by the two hosts. A reception follows where the host, RAI, the Mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, together with the EBU will welcome the participants of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.
