The French national broadcaster, France 2, has revealed the 12 competing acts and songs of the national final show “Eurovision France, c’est vous qui decidez”, via which France will select its Eurovision 2021 hopeful.
Following this morning’s announcement of hosting Junior Eurovision 2021 the French broadcaster shared more news on Eurovision events by unveiling the finalists of next year’s Eurovision national selection.
This year the French broadcaster went internal and selected Tom Leeb to represent the country in a contest that was eventually cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic. After a one year break France Télévisions are switching back to a national selection format in order to determine its hopeful, by adopting” Eurovision France, c’est vous qui decidez” (Eurovision France; It’s you who decides) as the format to select next year’s representative.
Today the 12 competing entries that will take part in the French national selection were revealed taking the process to the next stage. The 12 contestants are :
All 12 competing acts will be introduced to the audience on France 2, every evening, through the show “Eurovision France – les finalistes” . In this prime-time pastille, the artists will present their career along with the competing song they will deliver in the national final “Eurovision France, it’s you who decides”. The national selection show will be presented live by Stéphane Bernon France 2 and the final winner will come out of public voting (50%) with the other 50% of the result to be determiend by a jury made up of ten significant personalities of the music scene.
France in Eurovision
France has been part of the Eurovision Family since its first participation back in 1956. Since then the country scored five victories. Last time was in 1977, withMarie Myriam and her song L’oiseau et l’enfant. The last two years, however, seems to be an increasing interest for the contest .
Destination Eurovision was used for the first time as the country’s national selection mechanism in 2018, consisted of two recorded semi final shows and a live grand final. Destination Eurovision was the first national fina to take place since 2014. National final 2018 winners were the duo Madame Monsieur who represented France in Lisbon with their entry “Mercy” and finished 13th.
In 2019 Bilal Hassani won the second edition of Destination Eurovision 2019 and flew the flag in Tel Aviv with his entry Roi which came 16th in the Grand final.
In 2020 France Televisions decided to go internal by selecting Tom Leeb to represent the country in Rotterdam last May. Unfortunately his ESC 2020 journey never reached its destination as the covid-19 outbreak caused the cancellation of this year’s edition.
