Germany 2019: All you need to know about the duo S!sters and their entry “Sister”
The German national broadcaster, NDR determined this year’s Eurovision representative through the national final Unser Lied für Israel. A total of 7 acts competed in the final while the winner was determined by a three party voting, the public’s votes, the Eurovision panel’s votes made up from fans and a jury of experts. Winners of the national final were crowned the female duo S!sters and their song Sister.
A few words about S!sters
The duo S!sters consists of Carlotta Truman and Laurita Kästel. Despite that the name of the duo and the song it self leave the idea that they maust be sisters, however they do not have any kind of family relation between them. The duo was formed exclusively for the purpose of Eurovision and the specific song.
Carlotta Truman is 19 years old from Hannover and comes from a German father and British mother. Carlotta became familiar to the German audience at the age of 9 when she participated in the talent show Das Supertalent (German’s got talent). She toured all Germany while at the age of 12 she was awared the Deutschen Rock & Pop Preis in the best solo singer category, being the youngest to have received such prize. At the age of 14 she takes parts in the German Voice Kids where she finished 2nd. She has participated in several festivals and she studies pop music at the Pop Institute in the University of Hannover.
Laurita Kästel is 26 yo and was porn in the city of Königsau. She grew up in a family of musicians as her father is a very famous piano player while her mother is a singer from the Philippines . She began her music career early at the age of 10, when she took part in a kids’ music contest on the channel ZDF and finished 4th. After school she worked on the vocals within the German The Voice, and for other acts among which, Lena, SteΠλέον βρίσκεται στο στάδιο δημιουργίας και παραγωγής τραγουδιών για το πρώτο της album. Nowadays she is composing herself songs and preparing the single for her first album.
The entry “Sister”
Sister is a mid-tempo pop τραγούδι, entirely in English. Composers of the song are Laurell Barker, Marine Kaltenbacher, Tom Oehler and Thomas Stengaard. Laurell Barker is Canadian composer and apart from the German entry this year, she is behind Swiss entry (She got me) and the UK’s entry (It’s bigger than us), while last year she was the writter of the Swiss song Stones. Thomas Stengaard is a Danish composer who contributed to the the composition of the entry ε Only Teardrops by Emelie De Forest who brought the trophy to Denmark. Thomas was behind the German entry You Let Me Walk Alone. The song speaks of the relationship of two sisters that despite having a competitive relationship they don’t stop loving each other.

THE EUROVISION STORY SO FAR
Germany is one of the Big-5 countries and qualify in Eurovision directly in the final. The country has participated in every edition of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1956, with one year’s exception back in 1996. The country has won the competition twice, namely in 1982 and 2010.
In 2018 Germany placed 4th in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with Michael Schulte‘s You let me walk alone.
