Germany : Get to know Michael Schulte
German entry in this year Eurovision Song Contest, was decided once again through the national final Unser Lied für Lissabon organised by the German broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk officialy known as NDR. The winner of the show was Michael Schulte who will represent his country with his song “You Let Me Walk Alone“. The composition and production of the song has been made by Thomas Stengaard who was one of the composers of “Only Teardrops“, the Danish winning song back in 2013.
A few words about Michael Schulte and “You Let Me Walk Alone“.
Michael Schulte who was born in 1990, is a German singer and songwriter. He began his career by posting covers on his YouTube channel and later he placed himself third on season one of The Voice of Germany in 2012. His debut studio album “Wide Awake” was released later that year. His song “You Let Me Walk Alone” is dedicated to his father who died 13 years ago, leaving him and his two siblings, together with their mother alone to survive.

Germany had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 61 times since its debut in1956 and up today, has been noted for having competed in the contest more than any other country with the exception of the 1996 contest when the nation was eliminated in a pre-contest elimination round. The countryhas won the contest twice where, the first victory was in 1982 with the song “Ein bißchen Frieden” performed by Nicole and the second in 2010 with the song “Satellite” performed by Lena. In 2017, the German entry “Perfect Life” sung by Levina placed second-to-last out of 26 competing songs with only five points both from juries and televoting.
