Germany: More than 1000 applications for the next ESC 2019 national selection.
Without doubt Germany’s successful placing in the latest Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, where Michael Schulte and his ballad song, You Let Me Walk Alone achieved and honorable 4th place, has brought more attention to the next national final. According to the German national broadcaster, it has received more than 1000 applications from acts interested in representing the country in Eurovision Song Contest 2019, next year in Israel.
Thomas Schreiber, the director of NDR’s the entertainment program revealed such fact Prinz Blog, and explained the process that they will follow in order to determine the country’s next representative in Eurovision 2019.
The National Selection Process
Although the period for submission of songs will officially open in two months time, already 150 songs have been submitted . These songs together with the ones submitted in October and those produced in the special workshop of composers, songwriters and producers next November, will be the the total from which the national selection song will be chosen , after been matched with the appropriate performers.
From the 1000 candidates that have applied , a special committee of NDR, has already shorted the list to 198. Those remaining will be evaluated by a 100 member jury of fans, chosen through a web process. The fan jury will further cut down the list to 50 while the final selection of the 20 best to compete will be determined by a special international jury.
In the final phase of the process , NDR officials will collaborate with the song producers of the workshop , by matching the songs with the appropriate artist. However only a total of 8-10 acts out of 20 will be matched with a song and approved to battle for the golden ticket for Eurovision 2019 , in Israel.
A rather multi level complicated procedure that however was followed by the German broadcaster year bringing a top 5 placing for the country.
