Greece: Agathonas Iakovidis dies aged 65

Eurovision family is in grief as Agathonas Iakovidis, who represented Greece in Eurovision 2013 with Koza Mostra, has passed away aged 65.
Agathonas Iakovidis was a Greek folk singer of rebetiko style. He was born in 1955 in Evangelismos while his parents were refugees from Minor Asia. He began his career in music back in 1973 from Thessaloniki while his debut album came out in 1977. Since than he has released several albums and collaborated with the biggest Greek artists. Throughout his career he has held numerous concerts especially in countries with major Greek population as the States, Australia and over Europe.
Agathonas in Eurovision
Iakovidis joined forces with the rock band Koza Mostra in the song “Alcohol is free” and competed in the Greek national final for Eurovision 2013. The song won the ticket to Eurovision in Malmo, Sweden and gave Greece it’s best result and last top 10 placing in the last decade, by reaching the 6th place in the Grand final with 152 points.
