Iceland 2017: Svala Björgvinsdóttir and ”Paper” will fly to Kiev
RÚV, the National Broadcaster of Iceland, hosted the National Final of the country, Söngvakeppnin 2017 in Reykjavík, Laugardalshöllin. Söngvakeppnin 2017 cosisted of 2 semi final shows and a Grand Final.
Televoting (50%) and a special jury (50%) decided who will be the 2 Super Finalists of the final. The Final result was up to the televoters (100%) between the 2 Finalists. For the 1st time in history, the jury was consisted of Icelanders and non Icelanders. The jury members were: Julia Zemiro (Australia), Bruno Berberes (France) , Milica Fajgelj (Serbia) ,Måns Zelmerlöw (Sweden), and from the Icelanders, Snorri Helgason, Andrea Gylfadóttir and Þórður Helgi Þórðarson.
Greta Salóme opened the Final Show with Icelands 2016 entry Hear them Calling.
The Finalists of the Show were:
- Aron Hannes Emilsson – “Tonight”
- Arnar Jónsson & Rakel Pálsdóttir – “Again”
- Aron Brink – “Hypnotized”
- Hildur Kristin Sefánsdóttir – “Bammbaramm”
- Rúnar Eff Rúnarsson – “Make your way back home”
- Svala Björgvinsdóttir – “Paper”
- Daði Freyr Pétursson – “Is this love?”
Svala Björgvinsdóttir and Daði Freyr Pétursson were the 2 acts that moved on to the Super final. From those 2 finalists, the Televoters decided that Svala Björgvinsdóttir and her song Paper will represent Iceland in Kiev.
Internal act of the show were 2 previous winners of ESC, Måns Zelmerlöw and Alexander Rybak.
