Iceland: RUV confirms participation in Eurovision 2022 and opens submission window

Icelandic national broadcaster, RUV, has confirmed that it will take part in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Italy.

RUV has officially confirmed to ESCToday that the country will be present at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Italy next year.

The Icelandic representative will be decided once again through the Söngvakeppnin, after a one-year break. The show will take place in February with 10 contestants participating. The show will consist of two semifinals and a grand final.

In each semifinal round the contestants will be five for two places leading to the grand final, the result will be judged exclusively by the public. One contestant will be selected by the jury, which means that five contestants will participate in the grand final. In the final two contestants who will be selected by 50% by jury vote and 50% by televoting, will go to a superfinal round in which the televoting will decide who will travel to Italy.

RUV has released the rules and regulations  of Songvakeppnin 2022, according to which interested songwriters and composers must submit their applications and songs by 6 October 2021.
