Iceland: RÚV releases participations of Söngvakeppnin 2022
Iceland’s national broadcaster, RUV, has released the songs competing in Söngvakeppnin 2022, the show that will determine the country’s representative in Turin.
10 entries will compete in the national selection, which consists of two semifinals and a grand final. Five acts compete in each semifinal with the public voting to select two from each semifinal. In addition, the jury will select one more participant to qualify for the final from the non-qualifiers of the semifinals.
In the final, 50% of the tele-voting and 50% of the jury votes will determine which two will advance to a super-final round, in which only the tele-voting will decide the final winner and at the same time the next representative of Iceland in Turin.
The acts that will compete in the two semifinals are:
1st Semi-final
- Amarosis – “Don’t you know”
- Stefán Óli – “Ljósið” (The light)/ “All I know”
- Haffi Haff – “Gía” / “Volcano”
- Stefanía Svavarsdóttir – “Hjartað mitt” (My heart) / “Heart of mine”
- Sigga, Beta & Elín – “Með hækkandi sól” (With the rising sun)
2nd Semi-final
- Hanna Mia and the Astrotourists – “Séns með þér” (See you soon) / “Gemini”
- Katla – “Þaðan af” (From there) / “Then again”
- Markéta Irglová – “Mögulegt” (Possible) / “Possible”
- Reykjavikurdaetur – “Tökum af stað” (Let’s get started) / “Turn this around”
- Suncity and Sanna – “Hækkum í botn” (Let’s go to the bottom)

Τhe Sοngvakeppnin 2022 shows will take place according to the following schedule:
- February 26: First semi-final
- March 5: Second semi-final
- March 11: Family show
- March 12: Grand Final
Iceland in Eurovision
Iceland has been taking part in the Eurovision Song contest since 1986 and has not won the competition to date.
Best placing so far was in 1999 with Selma with her song “All Out of Luck”, and in 2009 with Yohanna with her song”Is It True?” which finished 2nd in the final.
In 2021 Iceland represented by Daði & Gagnamagnið who sang “10 Years” which finished 4th place with only 378 points.
