Israel 2019: Minister of Culture: “Eurovision will be held in Jerusalem, otherwise we will not organize it at all”
While it seemed that the Israelis are calming down, since yesterday, the Director General of the Ministry of Culture said it was not necessary to organize the Eurovision 2019 in Jerusalem, today, his political chief Miri Regev, the Minister of Culture of the country, sends a clear message in all directions. According to what the Minister said, Israel should organize Eurovision 2019 in Jerusalem, and if this is not feasible then the event should be transferred to another country.
According to the Times of Israel newspaper, the Israeli Minister of Culture has told KAN that she will suggest to the Cabinet that if Jerusalem is not selected as the city of Eurovision 2019, then they should resign the obligation to organize it.
“Israel has a capital city in Jerusalem and we must not be ashamed of it. The organization of Eurovision will cost 14 million dollars and will advertise our country. If the contest was not held in Jerusalem, it would not be right to invest this money”.
Miri Regev’s statements came after the cancellation of the friendly football match to be held in Jerusalem, between the Argentinian team and Israel. The fight was canceled due to the continuing episodes in the area. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed concern over other international events because of the erratic situation in the region.
At the end of the month, a delegation from Israel’s public service broadcaster, KAN, will go to Geneva to meet with the EBU and discuss the details of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
