Israel: Get to know Netta Barzilai

Israel will be represented in the 63rd Eurovision Contest by Netta Barzilai with the song “Toy“. Her selection came from the popular talent show Rising Star as she was the great winner of the show. Like the previous three years the Israeli representative was determined by this formula of national selection.

About Netta

Νetta is 25 years old and became popular through the show Rising Star. Actually she topped the jury votes even though she came third in public voting. However ever since she has accomplished to attract the public’s attention with her different music proposal for Eurovision, the song Toy. Besides this year’s Eurovision participation, she has studied music, both classic and electro-pop and in 2012 she was an advisor in a professional camp for new artists. In 2016 she was one of the protagonists of the theatrical perfomance Running on the Sea. Since then she has participated in many perfomances and has been the lead singer of group Gaberband in Israel as well as abroad.

This year’s entry  was composed by the famous Israeli composer Doron Medalie. He had taken on Israel’s entry Golden Boy in 2015 and back in 2016 the country’s entry Made Of Stars as well. He has collaborated with Eleni Foureira for the song Ti Kitas which was the song she proposed to represent Greece in Eurovision in 2016.

This year’s entry of Israel is one of the big favorites for winning the 63rd Eurovision Contest.

Israel has been participating in Eurovision since 1973 and it counts three wins unti now 1978 with Izhar Cohen & the Alphabeta–Abanibi, 1979 with Milk and Honey–Hallelujah and 1999 with Dana International–Diva. In gerenal the country’s presence  in the contest is moderate but the last three years has achieved to be constantly in the Grand Final.
