Italy: Diodato will not participate in Sanremo 2021
The Italian Eurovision 2020 representative, Diodato, has confirmed that he will not be returning in Sanremo 2021 and compete for a second consecutive victory in the iconic music festival.
In 2020 Diodato won the Sanremo trophy with his song ‘Fai Rumore’ and earned the right to represent Italy at Eurovision 2020. Unfortunately his Eurovision journey was interrupted as the contest was cancelled due to the covid-19 outbreak. However his song went on becoming a massive hit in Italy by topping the charts and going viral on streaming platforms.
During his interview on Italian radio RTL 102,5 he revealed that he has no plans of participating in the next edition of Sanremo Festival. Therefore the Italian act will not be defending his title and the right to represent Italy at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam. Diodato is the 7th Eurovision 2020 act the will not be returning in the contest next year along with Arilena Ara (Albania), Aksel (Finland), Den & Tan (Denmark), Damir Kedzo (Croatia), Sandro (Cyprus), Ulrikke (Norway).
The next Sanremo festival is set to unfold from 2-6 March with the Grand Final set for Saturday 6 March. The winner of iconic competition will have the right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2021.
Lets remember Diodato’s stunning performance of ‘Fai Rumore’ in Arena Di Verona that was broadcast during the special Eurovision show “Europe Shine A Light” in the place of the cancelled Eurovision Song Contest:
