Italy: Mahmood wins Sanremo Festival 2019 and will be flying to Tel Aviv

Moments ago, the 69th edition of Sanremo Festival made its closing at Teatro Ariston. Among 24 competing acts Mahmood was crowned winner with his entry Soldi. 

In this final show the 24 acts took the stage to perform one last time their entries. Take a look at their performance below:

During this evening’s show , which was hosted by Claudio Bisio, Virginia Raffaele and Claudio Baglioni, the results were determined  50% by televoting, 30% by the press jury and the rest  20% by a experts jury formed by : Mauro Pagani , Ferzan Özpetek, Camila Raznovich, Claudia Pandolfi, Elena Sofia Ricci, Beppe Severgnini, Serena Dandini and Joe Bastianich. The results from all previous 4 nights were added to today final show’s results in order to determine the three act that qualified to the superfinal round . According to the results those were:

  1. Ultimo – “I tuoi particolari”
  2. Mahmood – “Soldi”
  3. Il Volo – “Musica che resta”

Following this a new round of voting starting in order to determine the final winner. The outcome came by adding the votes from the televoting (40%), the votes by the press jury (30%) and the votes by the  demoscopic jury (composed of a sample of 300 music fans) by 30%.  Mahmood was crowed winner of the 69th Sanremo festival . The overall results of the festival and the final ranking o the contestants developed as following:

Mahmood ( or Alessandro Mahmood ), was born in 1992 in Milano. He’s father is Egyptian while his mother comes from Sardinia. he met a lot of fame after his participation in the Italian X-Factor talent show and he had participated also in Sanremo Giovani 2016. This year he released his first album. 

As it is not obligatory for the winner of Sanremo to represent Italy in Eurovision , Mahmod during his press conference after his victory, confimed that he is willing to go to Eurovision and represent Italy in Tel Aviv next May. The fact was confirmed on the official Eurovision Twitter account too.
