Italy: The names of the 69 candidate acts for Sanremo Giovani Festival revealed
The Italian national broadcaster revealed the names of the 69 candidate acts for Sanremo Giovani Festivsal.
After this year’s changes introduced in the Sanremo 2019 edition, we might no see again the New Proposte category in the next Sanremo Festival but RAI has launched the new festival of Sanremo Giovani. The new music festival Sanremo Giovani will include a total of 24 artist aged 16 to 36 and the event will take place over three nights on December 17 to December 21.
The national broadcaster had opened the submission window on September 4 until October 12 for all interested acts, inviting the same time record labels to submit acts’ names and entries for the festival. A record number of 677 submissions came in surpassing RAI’s expectations. Last evening RAI revealed the 69 candidate acts selected to go through the auditions in Rome on November 12 in order to shortlist the number down to the first 18 acts that will reach the Sanremo Giovani shows. The names of the 69 candidate are :

Among the names we can see that of Antonello Carozza (Icaro), who was one in the creative team behind Italy’s Eurovision 2016 entry while in 2010 he had participated in Russia’s national final and has participated in the New Wave Festival and The Voice in Russia and Italy. Notable as well is the name of Andrea Vigentini who was one of the backing vocalists in this year’s Italian participation in Lisbon.
The 69 acts will perform before the Music Committee which consists of artistic director of the festival and deputy director in RAI1 Claudio Baglioni, producer Massimo Giuliano, director and author Massimo Martelli, TV director Duccio Forzano, and the internationally recognised music producer Geoff Westley.
Area Sanremo Academy
While the auditions in Rome on November 12 will determine the group of 18 acts that will compete in the Sanremo Giovani, the rest 6 acts that will complete the total number of 24 acts will be selected through Area Sanremo academy, as it happened in the past with the Nuove Proposte category. From a total of 2.322 subscriptions, 870 participants with unreleased songs were accepted in the academy to receive special guidance from professional coaches. On October 30, the 225 names that made to the final phase will face one more last set of auditions held on 8-10 Νοεμβρίου at Teatro dell’ Opera del Casino. There a special committee formed by artisitc director of Radio Italia, Antonio Vandoni, director of the Festival’s Orchestra , Enzo Campignoli, producer Gianni Testa and singer Monia Russo , will determine the last six acts to compete in the Sanremo Giovani with the first group of 18 acts.
The 24 participants during the three nights of SanRemo Giovani will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their entries during the first two days while in the last day they will compete each other. The two first winners will join the other big names of the italian music scene in Sanremo Festival, where they will compete on Teatro Ariston stage for the trophy which leads to Eurovision 2019. Sanremo festival is set to take place at Teatro Ariston from 5 to 9 February 2019.
