JEDWARD MIGHT RETURN FOR THE U.K.
The BBC have that they will be holding its ‘biggest song search ever’ to find the UK’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
There’s an open call for submissions, which can be made by e-mailing the BBC, and the broadcaster will be working alongside the UK Eurovision fan club and the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) in order to select the entry.
Inspired by the BBC’s rebooted national selection, Jedward have announced their intention to submit a song for the UK. The twins may be Irish, but they got their start on The X Factor in the UK and have a substantial fanbase there. Their debut single “Under Pressure/Ice Ice Baby” reached No.2 on the UK singles chart, and the pair have made frequent appearances on UK television, including Celebrity Big Brother. And, let’s not forget, the UK gave Jedward 12 points in 2011.
The Grimes brothers represented Ireland with “Lipstick” in 2011 ,getting the 8th place in the final, and “Waterline” in 2012 and made a special appearance in 2014.
If Jedward return to Eurovision for a third time, they won’t be the first with this accomplishment. Lys Assia competed for Switzerland three years in a row, Carola has represented Sweden three times in three decades, and Valentina Monetta recently made it three in a row for San Marino.
Identical twin brothers John Paul Henry Daniel Richard Grimes and Edward Peter Anthony Kevin Patrick Grimes were born in Dublin. John and Edward’s first school was Scoil Bhríde National School in Rathangan. They then attended King’s Hospital School for four years before being moved to the Dublin Institute of Education. The twins competed in school talent shows during their school years and were inspired by Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. They were also members of the Lucan Harriers Athletic Club and Dundrum South Dublin athletics club and have competed in several Irish athletic tournaments. Jedward have released three albums, Planet Jedward, Victory and Young Love. Planet Jedward and Victory went double platinum in Ireland. Jedward are also known for their television work, including presenting children’s series Jedward’s Big Adventure and OMG! Jedward’s Dream Factory.
