Latvia: LTV receives 83 songs for national selection of Supernova 2019
Latvia’s national broadcaster, LTV , revealed that is has received a total of 83 songs to compete in Supernova 2019, the Latvian national selection format for Eurovision.
A total of 83 songs will be competing for the golden ticket that leads to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The deadline for submission expired on October 21 finding the broadcaster with ten less submissions than last year.
The national broadcaster is introducing significant changes in Supernova 2019. The age limit for interested performers, songwriters and acts falls, as even aged 16 will be allowed to take part in the national selection. A second change to be introduced is the kind of song they are seeking this year. Objective of this year’s selection is to spot a “radio hit” for the next edition of Eurovision Song Contest . Therefore the evaluation of the submitted songs will be held by a jury formed by representatives of the most popular Latvian radio stations. Furthermore, the national broadcaster will implement more strict criteria during evaluating the songs. All submitted songs must be professionally recorded and express the song writer’s philosophy.
While Latvian performers are in higher priority in the national selection, foreign producers, song writers and singers will still be able to take part in the selection. Especially for singers they must be part of a group formed of Latvian locals. Meanwhile Supernova will continue its collaboration with Universal Music Group in order to promote Latvian music internationally.
