Lithuania: Jurijus with “Run With The Lions” selected for Eurovision 2019

After 4 qualifying rounds, 2 semi-finals and a total of 49 candidates, Lithuania has chosen its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. It is Jurijus with his entry “Run With The Lions” who will be flying the Lithuanian flag in Tel Aviv.

The Lithuanian national selection show “Eurovizijos” (dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka), which began on January 5, has concluded tonight with 8 acts competing for the golden ticket to Tel Aviv. As in the previous heats and semi-finals, the hosts of the show were Giedrius Masalskis and Gabrielė Martirosianaitė. After Monika Marija had qualified with two entries for the final but announced she would withdraw her entry “Criminal” and compete only with the song “Light On”, Allen Chicco was added to the final line-up with his song “Your Cure”.

The 8 competing acts in tonight’s final were:

  1. Alen Chicco – Your Cure
  2. Junà – Strength Of A Woman
  3. Henry & Tommy Modric – Neverpart
  4. Jurgis Brūzga – CTRL ALT DELETE
  5. Jurgis DID & Erica Jennings – Sing!
  6. Monika Marija – Light On
  7. Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio Dantys – Mažulė
  8. Jurijus – Run With The Lion

The results were determined by the public (50%) and a jury panel (50%) made up of Ramūnas Zilnys (LRT music expert), Vytautas Bikus (composer) and Jonas Nainys (producer and DJ), Leonas Somovas, Simona Bandita, Darius Uzukartis and Mykolas Katkus.

Jurijus won both the public televote and the jury vote and will therefore represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. LRT reportedly was (and still is) investigating allegations and reports that Jurijus winning song had been revealed before the allowed date of September 1, 2018. The whole issue has been reported to the EBU, which will evaluate if there is any breach of rules by Jurijus.
