Malta: Groups Xtreme and 4th Line eliminated on the 2nd X-factor live show
This year X Factor Malta is the successor of Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) as the format for selecting the country’s Eurovision 2019 entry. This Sunday night the competition reached its 2nd live show during which 10 remaining acts battled to qualify to next week’s live show.
THE ROAD TO THE LIVE SHOWS
After the bootcamp Each group was assigned to a judge as its mentor for the rest of the show . From each goup 6 acts secured a spot in the next round of Judge’s Houses . The previous Sunday evenings we watched the girls’ , boys’ , the Overs’ and the Groups’ teams going through the Chair Challenge round and a total of six acts from each group proceed to the next stage of Judges’ Houses. In the Judges’ Houses round we saw 6 acts from each team visit their coach’s- judge’s house in order to perform before him and a special guest their last song, in order to win one of the three spots in each category that lead to the live shows.
THE 2nd LIVE SHOWS’ CONTESTANTS
12 acts had qualified imitally to the live shows. After last week 1st show eliminations 10 acts competed in the 2nd live show in order to make to next week’s round. Therefore in last evening’s first live show we saw the following 4 teams and 10 acts battle for the 8 spots in the 3rd week of live shows:
The Girls: Kelsey Bellante, Michela Pace, Nicole Frendo
The Boys: Luke Chappell, Norbert Bondin, Owen Leuellen
The Overs (25+): Ben Purplle, Petra
The Groups: 4th Line, Xtreme
THE 2nd SHOW’S LIVE PERFORMANCES
The 10 finalists had to choose a song that fit the theme: Throwback to legendary song of all kind . During this 1st live show we saw the following 10 magnificent performances:
Xtreme – “They Don’t Care About Us” (Michael Jackson)
Kelsey Bellante – “Could You Be Loved” (Bob Marley)
Owen Leuellen – “Boom! Shake The Room” (DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince)
Ben Purplle – “Yesterday” (Beatles)
4th Line – “It’s Raining Men” (The Weather Girls)
Petra – “I Just Wanna Make Love To You” (Etta James)
Luke Chappell – “Hey There Delilah” ( Plain White T)
Nicole Frendo – “Purple Rain” (Prince)
Norbert – “Wild Boys” (Duran Duran)
Michela Pace – “The Power of Love” (Frankie Goes to Hollywood)
THE RESULTS
The performance that seemed to impress most the four judges (Howard Keith Debono, Ray Mercieca, Alexandra Alden, Ira Losco) were those of Nicole Frendo , Petra, Owen Leuellen and Michela Pace.
Once the performances were completed the acts with the less vote was directly eliminated while the next two with the lowest votes battled in a sing off , after which the four judges decided which they were sending home.
The public voting placed last the group Xtreme which were eliminated by receiving the less votes from all contestants.
Further on Ben Purplle from the Overs and γκρουπ 4th line, had received the less votes ,therefore battled in a sing off to maintain there positions in the show. The two acts performed ‘Iris’ and ‘Queen of the Night της Whitney Houston respectively.
After the two performances the judges had to decide which one they were sending home, a voting that came to a deadlock (2-2), development that gave the final word to the public voting. The act that had received the less votes from these two, was the group 4th line , which was elimitated and leaving the show without any act from the Group’s team.
Therefore the goups Xtreme and 4th line were eliminated from the competition which will continue next week with the remaining 8 acts in their 3rd live show.
