Malta: Here are the 12 ‘Malta Junior Eurovision 2020’ national final contestants

The twelve finalists of the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 that will battle to represent the nation in Warsaw this November have been revealed. 

The Maltese public broadcaster, TVM,  has unveiled the acts that advanced to the national final that will determine the Maltese Junior Eurovision 2020 entry. A special panel picked out of  the submissions to PBS  12 acts that will compete for the ticket to Warsaw next November.

The finalists of the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 along with the songs to be performed are:

  • Leah Cauchi –Angels
  • Leah Mifsud – Anywhere
  • Isaac Tom – Beside Me
  • Mariah Cefai – Change the Silence
  • Chanel Monseigneur – Chasing Sunsets
  • Yulan Law and Gianluca Cilia – Deck of Cards
  • Kaya Gouder Curmi – Made of Stars
  • Emma Cutajar – Modern-Day Cinderella
  • Anneka Xerri – Moving
  • Zaira Mifsud and Eksenia Sammut – Only Live Once
  • Michela Caruana – Replay
  • Mychael Bartolo Chircop – The Child From Inside

Among the finalists the name of Gianllunca Cilia certainly stands out, as the young act had represented the nation back in 2017 with the entry “Dawra Tond” which came 9th in Tbilisi, Georgia.

In the next phase of the national selection, the 12 acts will perform their entries before a jury while their performances will be recorded and broadcast on TVM and the social media in order for the public to cast their votes. The voting will open by Mid-September and the final outcome is expected to be revealed before Semptember ends.

 

Malta in Junior Eurovision 

Malta participated in the contest for the first time back in 2003 and has achieved to win twice the contest. In 2013, on its comeback , when Gaia Cauchi with his entry The Start, gave the country its first victory. The second win came only two years after , in 2015, when Destiny Chukunyere won the contest in Sofia with her song Not My Soul. The worst result for the country was scored in 2005 at the Junior Eurovision in belgium, with the song Make It Right performed by Thea & Friends.

In JESC 2019 Eliana Gomez Blanco represented Malta in  Gliwice- Silesia  with “We Are More”, and came 19th with a totlal of 29 points.
