Malta: The 1st live show’s results of X-Factor Malta
This year X Factor Malta is the successor of Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) as the format for selecting the country’s Eurovision 2019 entry. This Sunday night the show reached its 1st live show during which 12 acts battled to qualify to next week’s live show.
THE ROAD TO THE LIVE SHOWS
After the bootcamp Each group was assigned to a judge as its mentor for the rest of the show . From each goup 6 acts will secure a spot in the next round of Judge’s Houses . The previous four Sunday evenings we watched the girls’ , boys’ , the Overs’ and the Groups’ teams going through the Chair Challenge round and a total of six acts from each group proceeding to the next stage of Judges’ Houses. In the Judges’ Houses round we saw 6 acts from each team visit their coach’s- judge’s house in order to perform before him and a special guest their last song, in order to win one of the three spots in each category that lead to the live shows.
THE LIVE SHOWS’ CONTESTANTS
Therefore in last evening’s first live show we saw the following 4 teams and 12 acts battle for the 10 spots in the 2nd week of live shows:
The Girls: Kelsey Bellante, Michela Pace, Nicole Frendo
The Boys: Luke Chappell, Norbert Bondin, Owen Leuellen
The Overs (25+): Ben Purplle, Franklin Calleja, Petra
The Groups: 4th Line, Kayati, Xtreme
THE 1st SHOW’S LIVE PERFORMANCES
The 12 finalists had to choose a song that fitted to the theme entitled “This is me”. During this 1st live show we saw the following 12 magnificent performances:
- 4th Line – “Survivor“ by Destiny’s Child
- Luke Chappell – “Overthinking“ (Original Song)
- Nicole Frendo – “Too Good At Goodbyes“ by Sam Smith
- Franklin – “Jealous“ by Labrinth
- Xtreme – “Side to Side“ by Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj / “Woman Like Me” by Little Mix ft. Nicki Minaj
- Michela Pace – “Lost On You“ by LP
- Norbert Bondin – “Say Something“ by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera
- Kayati – “Nobody’s Perfect“ by Jessie J
- Ben Purplle – “Dancing On My Own“ by Robyn
- Owen Leuellen – “Can’t Hold Us“ by Macklemore
- Petra – “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes
- Kelsey Bellante – “Chained to the Rhythm“ by Katy Perry
THE RESULTS
The performances that receives the most positive comments by the four judges (Howard Keith Debono, Ray Mercieca, Alexandra Alden, Ira Losco) were those of 4th Line, Nicole Frendo, Xtreme and Petra, while the performance that drove wild the judges and audience was that of Owen Leuellen. Once the performances were completed the acts with the less vote was directly eliminated while the next two with the lowest votes battled in a sing off , after which the four judges decided which they were sending home.
The public voting placed last the group Kayati which were eliminated by receiving the less votes from all contestants.
Further on the female group Xtreme and Franklin from the Overs team had received the less votes ,therefore battled in a sing off to maintain there positions in the show. The two sang performed ‘Take Me Home’ by Jess Glynne and ‘Clown’ by Emeli Sande respectively.
Although Franklin gave an emotional performance , Xtreme’s harmonies and vocal performance led the judges by 3 to 1 to send home Franklin.
Therefore the 1st live show saw group Kayati and Fraklin from the Overs leave the competition which will continue to unfold with its 2nd live shownext Sunday. Who was the most outstanding act for you in this first live show of x-factor Malta.
