Melodifestivalen: New voting procedure from 2018
Christer Bjorkman has decided to change the voting procedure for international committees, giving more power to Sweden’s television audience. In particular, international committees will now use Eurovision’s rating scale: 1-8, 10, 12 and not the old: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
With the previous system, each committee rated only 7 of the 12 songs of the final, and now will vote for 10 of the 12 . Thus, the total number of points of the committees the public rises to 638 from 473 points with the old system. This change was introduced in order to stop the negative comments of many Melodifestivalen fans and to give the people more power over the committees.
The Melodifestivalen of 2018 will begin on the 3rd of February with its first semi-final.
Last year, Sweden was represented by Robin Bengtsson, who edned 5th with 344 points. Will Sweden do such a good job this year?
