Portugal: Festival da Canção 2020 acts to be revealed on January 15
The Portuguese broadcaster, RTP, has made known that the Festival da Canção 2020 competing acts will be unveiled on the 15th of January, 2020.
Early November RTP had revealed the composers of the Festival da Canção 2020 and confirmed the dates on which the show will unfold. Just some hours before the Portuguese broadcaster revealed that the competings acts of the music event, that will determine Portugal’s Eurovision 2020 act and entry, will go public on January 15.
Apart from the competing acts RTP will release the titles of the competing songs , the hosts and the place where the Festival da Canção 2020 grand final will take place.
So far we know that the two semi final rounds are set for February 22 and 29 while the final will take place on March 7. The outcome of the festival will be determined by a combination of jury and public voting and the winner will represent Portugal in the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. The Eurovision Story so far
Portugal joined the Eurovision family in 1964 when it was represented by António Calvário, who finished last without any points. Since their debut in 1964 Portugal has missed five times the contest, the latest was in 2016 and has competed in total 51 times in the competition. Before 2016, the best result of Portugal in the contest was a 6th placing in 1996 with Lúcia Moniz performing “O meu coração não tem cor” in Oslo.
In 2017 the country got its name on the list with the winning countries, as Salvador Sorbal was crowned winner in Kyiv with his song Amar Pelos Dois . Following Salvador’s win the country hosted the 63rd edition of the contest in Lisbon.
In 2019 Conan Osiris ,winner of the Portuguese national final Festival da Cançao represented the country in Tel Aviv with his entry Telemoveis. Despite the outstanding alternative performance in the first semi final, Conan failed to qualify to the Grand final .
