Romania: Voltaj selected to fly the flag in Vienna.

The Romanian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest (Selectia Nationala 2015) finished this evening.. The national final was held at  Sala Polivalentă in Craiova and was aired on the Romanian national broadcaster RTV.

 Voltaj with the song De la capat  were the winners and will represent Romania in Vienna. Voltaj will compete in the second half of the first semi-final on Tuesday May 19th.

The national final included 12 finalists:

1. Voltaj – De la capăt
2. Băieţii – Dragoste în lanţuri
3. Tudor Turcu – Save Us
4. Aurelian Temişan feat. Alexa – Chica Latina
5. Rodica Aculova – My Light
6. Blue Noise – Love Won’t Run Away
7. Ovidiu Anton – Still Alive (3rd place)
8. Lara Lee – Superman
9. Super Trooper – Secret Place
10. Luminiţa Anghel – A Million Stars ( 2nd place)
11. Cristina Vasiu – Nowhere
12. CEJ – We Were In Love

The results were determined by a 50/50 vote from televoting and jury. Voltaj won with the maximum of 24 points. 12 points from the jury and 12 points from the public, leaving behind  at second place  Luminiţa Anghel  and her entry A Million Stars .

Voltaj (which translates to Voltage in English) are a Romanian Pop Rock band. They have been together since 1982,but they have had many line up changes over the years, but the current band consists of Calin Goia (vocals), Gabi “Porcus” Constantin (guitar), Adrian M. Cristescu (keyboards), Valeriu ‘Prunus’ Ionescu (bass) and Oliver Sterian (drums).Their first album in 1996, which was entitled Pericol de Moarte (Risk of Death) . The last album they released was in 2012 and was called Da vina pe Voltaj (Blame Voltage). In 2005 they were awarded with MTV Best Romanian artist award.

Romania first  Eurovision participation was in 1994 with Dan Bittman singing Dincolo de nori. 

Until last year’s Eurovision Contest Romania’s best result is a third place in 2005 and 2010.  Romania has never missed a final since in the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004.

Last year, Romania was represented by Paula Seling and Ovi with the song Miracle. They finished 12th in the grand final.
