Slovakia: RTVS has no plans to return in Eurovision 2021
The Slovakian national broadcaster, RTVS, has no plans of returning at the forthcoming 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.
RTVS has confirmed to ESCToday that a 2021 return at the Eurovision Song Contest will not happen, marking the country’s 8th consecutinve year out of the competition. The Central European landlocked country joins Andorra and Luxembourg staying out of Eurovision.
Budget issues and low audience figures have kept the broadcaster away from competing in the contest. However the Slovakian broadcaster doesn’t rule out a future comeback at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Eurovision Story So Far
Back at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 the nation competed in the special preliminary semifinal in Slovenia, but failed to qualify and participate . It was the following year with Martin Durinda and Tublatanka when the country made its first participation in Dublin. Since then the country has partaken 8 times and it hasn’t any remarkable results when it comes to results when its best placing was in Oslo with Marcel Palonder and his 18th placing
It was Max Jason Mai and his song Don’t close your eyes at ESC 2012 in Baku that represented Slovakia for the county’s last appearance.
