Spain: Blas Cantó wins RTVE’s Eurovision 2020 Online voting
Blas Cantó the Spanish Eurovision 2020 representative and the confirmed ESC 2021 hopeful won the final online voting held by the Spanish broadcaster RTVE.
Eurovision 2020 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak but the show is not over yet for several countries as several national broadcasters across Europe will be broadcasting alternative Eurovision shows and online happenings. Among them the The Spanish broadcaster RTVE has held so far two semi-final online votings with nearly 10,000 votes across the two semi-finals. Lithuania’s The Roop won semi-final 1 with 559 votes (two votes ahead of Russia) and Daði og Gagnamagnið from Iceland won the semi-final 2 with 787 votes.
The 20 qualifiers joined the Big 5 and The Netherlands in the grand final vote, which ran until 12:00 CEST today with thousands of fans casting their votes. Eventually, the competition saw Blas Cantó winning the final round of voting with Greece and Stefania coming 2nd while Lithuania with The Roop closed the top 3 places. Blas Cantó was internally selected to represent Spain at Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam with the song “Universo” but due to the coronavirus outbreak this year’s contest was cancelled. However the Spanish broadcaster has already confirmed that Blas will fly the flag at Eurovision 2021 too.
