Sweden: Get to know Benjamin Ingrosso
Benjamin Ingrosso got the ticket to Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon after having won Melodifestivalen in a tight race. Luckily, he was the favorite of both the International juries and the Swedish public. But let’s get to know Benjamin Ingrosso better.
Who is Benjamin Ingrosso?
Benjamin Daniele Wahlgren Ingrosso was born on September 14 1997 and comes from a familly of musicians. He has been acting and singing as a child having appeared in leading roles in several musicals.
Benjamin is not totally unknown to the fans of Eurovision having already won Lilla Melodifestivalen 2006 at the age of 9, representing Sweden in MPG Nordic 2006 ending up in 4th place. Lilla Melodifestivalen was the swedish national final for Junior Eurovision and MPG Nordic.
In 2007, he released the music single “Jag är en astronaut”, which his uncle Linus Wahlgren had recorded and performed in 1985. The same year he appeared in Allsång på Skansen (a Swedish summary show held at Skansen, Stockholm) together with his mother Pernilla Wahlgren.
Between 2008 and 2009 he appeared again in several musicals and in 2011 Ingrosso acted in the role as ‘lillebror’ (little brother) in the play “Karlsson på taket flyger igen” at Göta Lejon theatre i Stockholm.
In 2014 Benjamin Ingrosso announced that he had left the musical scene to focus entirely on music and songwriting.
Ingrosso won the Swedish celebrity dancing TV-series Let’s Dance 2014 broadcast on TV4, alongside his professional dancing partner Sigrid Bernson.
Since 2016 he participates in his mother Pernilla Wahlgren’s TV-series Wahlgrens värld.
In 2017 he made his debut in Melodifestivalen as an adult with the song “Good lovin’ “. He was placed 5th and finally, after his second attempt in Melodifestivalen 2018 he won the ticket and will hence represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song contest in Lisbon.
He comes from a familly of musicians
Benjamin’s whole familly bakground consists of known musicians and actors. Most known is his mother Pernilla Wahlgren, actress and singer. Pernilla has competed in Melodifestivalen five times in total, in 1985, 1991, 2003, 2010 and 2013 (alongside Jenny Silver and Hanna Hedlund as part of the Swedish housewives).
Pernilla’s most known and loved entry was “Piccadilly Circus” from Melodifestivalen 1985 where she was placed 4th. Behind her, Benjamin’s father Emilio Ingrosso, himself a composer and dancer, was acting as a backing dancer to Pernilla. That was long ago before Benjamin was even born.

Benjamin’s brother Oliver Ingrosso is also participating on the TV-series Wahlgrens Värld, alongside himself, his mother and sister Bianca Wahlgren Ingrosso. Bianca is also working as an actress and TV-host.
Benjamin’s grandmother Christina Schollin is an actress and his grandfather Hans Wahlgren an actor.
His uncle Niklas Wahlgren (Pernilla’s father) is a singer, actor and TV-host, while his other uncle Linus Wahlgren is an actor.
So, every singer familly member is strongly connected to music or acting.
Benjamin Ingrosso will compete in the second semifinal on Thursday, May 10th with the song “Dance you Off”.
