Sweden: SVT reveals host and Melodifestivalen 2022 dates

Swedish National Broadcasting Corporation, SVT reveals host and Melodifestivalen 2022 dates.
SVT revealed today that Oscar Zia will be the presenter of Melodifestivalen 2022, a significant change from the Swedes, since only one host will take over the presentation of the show. Oscar Zia has participated and competed three times in the competition in the past: in 2012, 2013 and 2016.
Melodifestivalen 2022 will take place from February 5 to March 12, 2022. Four semifinals, a second chance and a grand final will be on display once again.
In addition, Melodifestivalen 2022 will be held without an audience. However, SVT hopes to be able to repeat the program on tour, if the pandemic situation allows.
Melodifestivalen will take place on exactly the following dates and locations:
- 05/02/2022 – 1st Semifinal (Malmo/Malmo Arena)
- 12/02/2022 – 2nd Semifinal(Gothenburg/ Scandinavium)
- 19/02/2022 – 3rd Semifinal (Linköping / Saab Arena)
- 26/02/2022 – 4th Semifinal (Lidköping / Sparbanken Arena)
- 05/03/2022 – Second Chance Semifinal ( Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena)
- 12/03/2022 – Grand Final ( Stockholm/ Friends Arena)
The submission period for the 2022 edition of Melodifestivalen has started on August 27, 2021 and the deadline expires on September 17, 2021. A total of 28 contestants will take part in Melodifestivalen 2022 and one will finally be able to represent the country at Eurovision in Italy next May.
Sweden in Eurovision
Sweden has been taking part in the Eurovision Song contest since 1958 and has won the contest six times, in 1974 with ABBA, in 1984 with Herreys , in 1991 with Carola, in 1999 with Charlotte Nilsson , in 2012 with Loreen and in 2015 with Måns Zelmerlöw.
This year Sweden represented by Tusse who sang ‘Voices’ which finished 14th place with 109 points.
