Sweden: Which artists are likely to compete in Melodifestivalen 2019
As the Swedes are gearing up preparations for the forthcoming Melodifestivalen 2019, Sweden’s national selection, different names of artists appear as potential contestants of the competition. Local newspaper Aftonbladet, which usually predicts with accuracy the possible contestants, presented names of new and old participants that might compete in the so called small Eurovision of the North.
First on the list who else but Wiktoria who had participated in Melodifestivalen 2016 with her entry Save Me and came 4th in the grand final. Next year she made another attempt with her song As I Lay Me Downκαι finshing 6th in the overall score but 2nd in the public voting.
Next act that stands out as a potential Melodifestivalen 2019 participant is Nano who last year topped the televoting score but came 2nd in the overall results with his song Hold On. Winner of that final was Robin Bengtsson with the entry I Can’t Go On.
Another name that is going around for the forthcoming Melodifestivalen is the group Avirgarna (The Heirs), who won the national final back in 1993 and finished 7th in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Additionally, the names of Jon Henrik Fjallgren and John Lundvik are two more acts that we might see in the next competition. The first one competed in 2015 (Jag är fri– 2nd place) and in 2017 (En värld full av strider– 3rd place). On the other hand John made his debut in this year’s national selection with the song My Turn which came 3rd. Another name playing hign in possibilities to compete in the comeptition is Oscar Enestad (ex member of the group FO&O).
So far the only confirmed participant for the forthcoming Melodifestivalen 2019 are The Lovers Of Valdaro, winners of the P4 Nasta contest. Each year the winner of the specific competition win a spot in Melodifestivalen. However the acts must change their song because their entry was released before September 1.
