Switzerland: National broadcaster kicks off the search for the ESC 2021 song
Despite the this year’s unprecedent cancellation and while the next contest is a year away , Switzerland has began its search for the next edition’s entry.
The Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR are certainly losing no time for next year’s preparations. Not long after the Eurovision 2020 was cancelled the broadcasters confirmed as their Eurovision 2021 rerpesentative Gjon Muharremaj (aka Gjon’s Tears), giving him the chance to complete his Eurovision journey.
Song selection without an open call
Following the EBU’s decision not to allow the ESC 2020 entries to compete in the 2021 edition SRG SSR complying with the decision have kicked off the search of the song for Gjon’s Tears. The Swiss broadcaster won’t be making an open invitation to songwriters but look to hold songwriting sesions with specific songwriters and producers from the country and the rest of the world.
All entries should be sent in by September 20 and can be written in any language. Following the submission period the songs will be assessed by aby a 100-member audience panel and a 20-member jury of international specialists while the Swiss hopeful himself won’t have a say on the selected song.

This year Gjon’s Tears was selected to represent the country with his song Répondez-moi, written by Gjon himself, as well as Xavier Michel, Alizé Oswald and Jeroen Swinnen. The French song however didn’t ever see the stage in Rotterdam as the contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
