Switzerland: SRF unveils its alternative Eurovision program for May

All national broadcasters are adjusting their Eurovision programs after this year’s unprecedent cancellation of the contest due to the covid-19 pandemic. The Swiss-German broadcaster SRF has revealed their plans for this May.

Following the Eurovision 202o cancellation already 46 broadcasters have confirmed they will be broadcasting the special show “Eurovision: Europe shine a light”, inspired by the 1997 winning entry. The show will honour this year’s 41 contestants, the Eurovision journey of which stayed incomplete. In addition to this show , the  Swiss audience, will have the chance to watch a special program  “Switzerland at the ESC – dramas, victories, emotions”.

The Swiss Eurovision history

The Swiss-German broadcaster, will be making a journey in the country’s history in the contest. A total of 61 entries, among which  the wiining songs of 1956 and 1988, with Lys Assia and Celine Dion respectively, will be spotlighted on the show. The show will feature past Swiss representatives, such as Paola Felix (1969), Sandra Studer (1991), Peter Reber (1971, 1976, 1979 and 1981 along with band Peter, Sue & Marc), Sven Epiney (The presenter of  the Entscheidungsshow ) and Gjon’s Tears (2020 and 2021) that will give a hand in unwinding the country’s history in Eurovision.

The show will aprroach the contest froma different angle shairing with the audience backstage moments and  the acts’ preparations. And as expected the special show will highlight this year’s Eurovision representative , Gjon’s Tears  and share information on Gjon’s Tears’ plans for Eurovision 2021.

SRF’s The special show will air on Saturday 16 May 2020 at 20:10 CEST on SRF 1.

This year Gjon’s Tears was selected to represent Switzerland with the song Répondez-moi .
