Tel Aviv Rehearsals Day 6: France kicks off Big-5 countries rehearsals

After last day’s rehearsals with almost all of semi final 1 countries making their 2nd rehearsal, rehearsals continue with the two remaining countries from the first semi final and nine from the 2nd semi final to conclude with the big 5 and host country’s first rehearsal.  Therefore the day kicks off with Greece  and concludes with Germany.

After the host country’s first rehearsal the schedule continues with the Big 5 countries and France’s first technical rehearsal. The winner of the French national final Destination Eurovision 2019, Bilal Hassani, gets on the stage to rehearse his entry entitled “Roi”. Can he become the next king of the Eurovision song contest?

As the song starts we see Bilal’s face in a close up shot and falling tears being project on his face and some other pictures.  After he appear himself with a clear face and moves to the central part of the stage.

Bilal wears  white trousers and a cropped tailored top with long sleeves while around his wrists and some part of the sleeves we see embroidered zirconia. He is wearing of snickers and a blond long hair wig.

During the first chorus a burly ballet dancer comes and joins Bilal onstage and start making ballad moves interacting with the French artist. Some time after another dancer of  Asian origin appears from the other side of the stage and joins the performance while her moves are part of the sign language.

During the song short phrases appear on the background LED screens indicating some forms of discrimination and harassment  (such as I think you could never dance) and as the song comes to its end the Bilal stand in the middle of the stage making the crown sign with hands above the head. A big sized phrase behind says “we are all kings” and switches to  “we are all queens” as the last notes of the song are heard.

Vocally a satisfying performance , with strong messages that receives maybe  the warmest applause in the press center.
