Eurovision 2022: RAI starts the bidding process of the host city

The Italian broadcaster, RAI, has started the bidding process that will determine which city will host the next edition of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Italian broadcaster has announced the tender for the bidding process of the cities wishing to host Eurovision 2022. Applications must be sent from July 7, 2021 to July 12 at 23:59. All applications should be sent to RAI via email to the following address: amministratoredelegato@infepresidentpostacertificata.rai.it.

Cities wishing to host the competition must meet EBU’s requirements and rules and contribute financially to the organization of the event..

Once the cities have submitted their applications, RAI will ask those who qualify to submit their respective bid books to RAI and EBU, which will have the final say on which city will host the 66th edition of its Song Contest Eurovision.

A total of 12 Italian cities have expressed their desire to host the next competition as soon as the Maneskin are crowned winners in Rotterdam. These are:

  • Rome
  • Turin
  • Milan
  • Bologna
  • Pesaro
  • Florence
  • Rimini
  • Reggio Emilia
  • Verona
  • San Remo
  • Naples
  • Bari

Specifically, four cities appear to meet only EBU requirements:

  • Rome
  • Milan
  • Bologna
  • Turin

Among these four, Torino has officially announced that it is participating in the race and seems to be the first. However, who can ignore the eternal city and leave out Rome as a possible host city. One thing is for sure, the fight will be tough and will depend on many factors.

In previous years, when the competition was hosted in Italy, it took place in Naples in 1965, after the victory of Gigliola Cinquetti, and in Rome in 1991, after the victory of Toto Cutugno.

The road to the host city will unfold in the coming weeks as cities prepare their bids and submit their books. The RAI and the EBU are expected to reach a final decision by the end of the summer, but an earlier date cannot be ruled out. The date of the next competition is still unknown.
